- About Omen Threat Meter
Omen is a threat meter. Basically, enemies in WoW decide who to attack by deciding who is the most threatening based on the abilities you use. What Omen attempts to do is provide reasonably accurate estimates of your group's relative threat level on individual enemies, so that you can see when you're in danger of pulling aggro (or, if you're next on the snack list if your tank bites it). This info is usually only critical in raids, where only tanks can survive aggro, but it's useful for any multi-player situation.
Omen is an interface for the Threat-2.0 library, and comed bundled with it.
The latest updates are always available at files.wowace.com, or through the WowAceUpdater.
- Do other people need Omen installed for it to work?
Short answer: yes
Long answer: kinda
To get fully accurate data, your groupmates must have Threat-2.0 (or an addon that uses it) installed and running. Any addon that uses Threat-2.0 will satisfy this requirement and will provide full and accurate threat data to Omen.
If you or your groupmates have any of these addons installed, or have Threat-2.0 installed as a standalone, then they are capable of sending and receiving threat data.
Please note that unlike Threat-1.0, Threat-2.0 DOES NOT have KLH Threat Meter interoperability.
- Do I need to install Threat-2.0 to use Omen?
No. Threat-2.0 comes bundled with Omen as an embedded library. You only need to install Threat-2.0 if you want to provide your group with threat information without a GUI. As a user, you can think of Threat-2.0 as a stripped down tank version of Omen.
- How does Omen handle multiple targets with the same name?
Joyous news! Thanks to upgrades Blizzard made in 2.4, Omen can now tell every mob apart. You should have accurate threat information for every mob you engage, regardless of its name.
- What else has changed?
- Omen has a number of display modes now. You have:
- The "Single Target" mode. This is your standard threat meter mode.
- The "AOE" mode. This shows your relative threat on all targets you are in combat with. Useful for seeing your relative threat on multiple targets.
- The "Overview" mode. Shows people who are currently high on threat on any enemy you're in combat with.
- The "Healer/Tank" mode. Shows each of your tanks' targets (pulled from oRA2 or the Blizzard tank settings) and their threat lists.
- Single-bar customization is not in yet. This is coming.
- Pullout bars are not implemented yet. This is coming.
- Omen has a number of display modes now. You have:
- Where do a report a bug?
(todo, for now, use the message board here, the wowace forums or #wowace on irc.freenode.net)
- Where do I make a feature request?
(todo, for now, use the message board here, the wowace forums or #wowace on irc.freenode.net)

I understand what wowace.com is as I have a friend who did some add on work before and has used this site. Many developers including OMEN's use this site to upload versions that they are testing. The issue with Wowace has always been that there is no revision control. Developers are not required to tage their uploads as Alpha (test), Beta, or Final Release. You will often see developers load 2-3 zipfiles in one day as they work on bugs and upload new versions each with a slight change and there is no way for the user to determine which is which.
Most guilds aim to run the same FINAL RELEASE build number on all their members for accuracy. This is almost impossible if all members use WOWAce Updater. Unless they ALL update just before raid each day there is no way to be sure they are all on the same build. Even if they do that, there is no way to know if the newest published version on wowace is a FINAL RELEASE or a work in progress.
Our guild standardizes Omen to a specific build number. Currently r72207.1
At one point, Curse was updating Omen only after the version was "stable" for a few days/weeks. This allowed our guild to tell players to only update using Curse as it was updated less often and resulted in almost no compatibility issues between members.
Soon it won't matter as WowAce.com will no longer exist.
An IRC log with questions and answers can be found here: http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=14316.msg231458#msg231458
It's basically gonna be the end of the wowaceupdater, and in the future you get your ace addons from the Curse Client (which will be redone). Alpha releases won't be available from the client, but beta and final releases will.
Basically it should result in more stable mods getting to the "end users", by keeping alpha stuff only the SVN only.
All mods from WoWAce will be found on the new site, even if they don't have an active author, so no mods will disappear.
Hope this helps people...

hbehrner said"If you go into the options, under single mode from memory. There is an option to disable the aggro pull sound."
I guess this option is not within the omen options. I can't find neither "single mode from memory" or any "aggro pull sound" option in the omen option window.
Please someone explain where this option is found, as I have stopped using Omen only because of this totally insane high aggro pull sound level.
Otherwise I really like Omen both for raiding and solo.
I'm using version r72207.1
Thanks in advance.

tunacubes saidIn the options, under the "Modules" section, click the plus button next to "Single Target Mode", then click "Warnings". You can screw around with what happens in there, and then test it out before you save it.
No one else seemed to give a good explanation of this.

Sorry you are just plain wrong. Wowace.com is where a vast number of addon authors maintain their addons. IT IS NOT JUST A BETA SITE.
The key point is that using WowAceUpdater from http://www.wowace.com/wiki/WowAceUpdater you can update not just your addons but very very importantly the embeded libraries. What causes most problems is people downloading out of date versions from sites like Curse where the addons are not maintained. These old old versions on Curse have out of date libraries.
What happens is you can have something stable and working then install a completely different addon that uses the same library and suddenly things break. As your old version of Omen from Curse relied on the library that it shipped with. Your new addon loads a different version and suddenly Omen breaks.
If you use WowAceUpdater you get the very latests fixes and ALL your acemod libraries are updated to the latest versions. Authors tend to be very quick to update addons and so you can find that a vast number of problems are fixed very very quickly.
Anyway the basic point is use WowAceUpdater to update your addons from the OFFICIAL site of wowace addons ie: wowace.com, don't rely on old out of date versions of addons and libraries from Curse.
If you like doing things manually you can download the files from http://files.wowace.com
You can see the history of all versions of an addon at http://files.wowace.com/AddonName
The latest version of any addon is always at http://files.wowace.com/AddonName/AddonName.zip
Naturally substitute the name of the addon for AddonName eg:
http://files.wowace.com/Omen/Omen.zip for Omen.

yamamoto114 saidAs a Hunter, I can't tell you how bloody annoying the soup cooking noise is and how often it occurs during solo PvP. I also hate the screen flash being RED of all colors, it interferes with the default screen flash. Please make it yellow or something...
Seriously though! SOUP COOKING NOISE! It's loud, interferes with my music, and happens 5 times every 10 seconds!

If you go into the options, under single mode from memory. There is an option to disable the aggro pull sound.
The reason you are getting the sound of course is that you are pulling aggro from your pet.

Jaxsur saidI couldn't agree more. I have both a warlock and a hunter, and it's so annoying that I just plain don't use Omen unless I'm grouping. Which is too bad, because I find the addon very useful for soloing with my pet, I just don't want my ears blasted out every time I get a little bit of aggro. FIX THIS! I'll pay you money if you put in a feature to turn off the noise, it's that important to me. Is that enough incentive?

Pericles saidThere is an option in there to disable the sound.
The first version that added the sound also included the option to turn it off so you have ALWAYS been able to disable it. Just look in the options menu - under single mode if memory serves.

Lightz39 saidYes, curse is normally for the current "stable" or non-beta version. However if people do not download from wowace and test the addons then how will they improve?

Pericles saidNope these days is Curse is "oh well suppose I better stick a version on Curse as well". It used to be you visited Curse and there were dozens of updated addons a day now days go by with only 1 or 2 updates. Curse is where addon authors update because some people don't know where else to look.
Wowace.com is where addons are usually maintained these days. When Blizzard releases a patch addon authors rapidly update their addon to fix things Blizzard broke. People that still rely on Curse will have broken addons potentially for months after everone else has got fixed versions from wowace.com.
